INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

In 2006, the Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba as Professor of Choral Studies. Throughout his career he has received numerous awards for his dedication to choral music through performance, teaching, mentoring and leading several generations of choristers and choral conductors. One is hard pressed to find a music teacher, singer or choral conductor in this province whose career has not been positively influenced by him.

To honour Henry's contributions to choral music at the University and in Manitoba as a whole, it has been my goal to establish a fellowship in his name. The Henry Engbrecht Graduate Fellowship will award up to $20,000 to a graduate student of Choral Conducting at the University of Manitoba. It will take some time to establish this considerable award. The immediate goal is to first of all, establish the fund itself and secondly to present the first scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year, at a minimum value of $5,000. We also hope this award will enhance the status of the Faculty of Music, attract high calibre students to the Faculty, and keep the cultivation of Choral Arts alive in Manitoba.

Thank you to all of you that have already shown your support!

I invite you to consider a financial contribution to help build the Henry Engbrecht Graduate Fellowship. Your gift will honour Henry's legacy and indelible imprint he has made at the University of Manitoba, and assist an aspiring choral conducting student who may very well follow Henry's career path.

This graduate fellowship also qualifies for matching funds through the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative (MSBI). Funded by the government of Manitoba, MSBI doubles a portion of private donations by providing matching funds for new scholarships and bursaries.

Thank you,
Geraldine De Braune
